flower of the moment: the DAHLIA

Every Monday/Wednesday/Friday morning, as I venture to work through Union Square, I'm lucky enough to get to walk through the USQ Green Market! Currently, everywhere I turn all of the flower vendors are selling Dahlia's fresh from their farms. I'm obsessed! They look like a delicate piece of oragami made of tissue paper.

SUCC(ulent) IT!

Last night, Allison, Francesca and I headed over to Sprout in Williamsburg
for a class on Terrariums! Everyone brought their own vessel and went to town with
all the materials provided by Sprout. The above pics don't do it justice, but my little terrarium is its own perfect little world, complete with a flowering cactus and a monkey figurine. Very Planet of the Apes. Can't wait to make more!

Green Thumb

This weekend in the midst of my post-potluck hangover, I decided it would be
a great idea to buy a window box at my favorite store, Sprout in Williamsburg.
The next day, I bought the plants at the Union Square Green Market and went to town!
Above is the end result. Everytime I look at it, I smile! I recommend gardening in the Spring time to everyone!

Back then...

1. My parents
2. My Mom
Maybe it's the colors, or just the attitude, but people were so beautiful back then.
But perhaps I'm slightly biased...

NEED

I think I NEED 3 or 4 of these glass globes.
I'm thinking of hanging them in my living room, in front of
a sliding glass door at varying lengths. I especially love the Air Plant inside!
Available at Sprout Home, $15.

San Francisco Treat

Yesterday I booked my ticket to visit the lovely city of San Francisco to visit my best friend, Miss Gina Esposito. I think her and I both have already started compiling a list of places to go, things to eat, and booze to drink!

One of the places I am dying to visit is Flora Grubb Gardens. I actually despise roses, but her bouquet of "Forever Roses" is beautiful, and better yet it's actually a succulent bouquet. Can't wait to check it out in person!

Philadelphia Flower Show

This weekend while visiting my family in Philly, I went to check out the Philadelphia Flower Show. The photos above were some of my favorites. The bottom 3 photos were from the Best in Show installation from Moda Botanica. Flower shows can tend to get repetitive and personally I think pretty bland, but the crew at Moda took flowers to a new level, creating mini gallery spaces within stacked shipping crates. Absolutely brilliant, and smelled wonderful! And actually made me consider a career change???

Refrigerator Art: by Mark Menjivar

I stumbled upon these photos on 20x200 which is a website
that features 2 new pieces a week, offered at prices from $20 to $2000.
Using the internet as its gallery space, 20x200 allows up and coming artists
to showcase authentic limited edition pieces to a mass market.
The 2 photographs above are by Mark Menjivar. Mark traveled the US and photographed
peoples refrigerators, simple-yes but pretty impactful.
Both taken in San Antonio, TX, the photo on the left is the fridge of a
Midwife and Middle School Teacher. The fridge on the right is owned by a Bartender.

Bits and Pieces

Sometimes select bits of color and texture can be just as breathtaking as a whole look.
These 3 bits were taken from the Dries Van Noten show, Paris Fashion Week FA10.
